Pinktober Poker Open Event 3 was the last warmup tournament on the schedule before kicking off the Championship. It drew 256 entries to beat its $50,000 guarantee and Nick Scholz took the top spot with an outright win for $16,860.

Scholz began the final table among the leaders but dropped to less than five big blinds when they were three-handed. Former Tampa champ went out in third and Scholz was down 7-to-1 versus Alexander Grassia but came all the way back to capture the title.

Alexander Grassia began heads-up play with a big chip lead but Nick Scholz came back to take the title after a few big hands including flush over flush.

Grassia took home $11,220 for his runner-up finish while Nick Scholz earned $16,860 along with his first career trophy.

Gabriel Fuller caught a break, then caught a double.

First up, he moved all in for 275,000 with As4c and ran into Fred Paradis with a big ace holding AdTd. The dealer ran out the Kc9h5dJc9c for a chopped pot to save Fuller’s final table run.

One hand later, he open-shipped for 340,000 and this time it was Walter Thronton calling to put him at risk.
