Joseph Kessman

The Mixed Pot Limit Omaha tournament is always popular in Tampa and we had a nice group of 59 entries in the 2022 WPO version. Event 5 came down to a tough heads-up battle where Joseph Kessman defeated John Binns for the title and $6,475.

Several interesting storylines were playing out at the final table. Jordan Joeckel was going for back-to-back wins in consecutive days after winnings yesterday’s $400 Limit Omaha 8 title, but he fell in sixth place. Wally Maddah was the defending champ, taking the Mixed PLO title during the Pinktober Poker Open, but he was eliminated in eighth place.

Kessman was the unknown factor; no recorded tournament results and claims among some saying this was his first tournament. He was heads-up with Binns, who is very known; nine career Omaha titles with four coming in major Hollywood events.

In the end, Binns was unable to overcome Kessman’s lead and settled for second place, while Kessman took home the WPO trophy.
