December 3, 2021

The Winter Poker Open H.O.R.S.E. tournament had a fantastic turnout with 88 entries packing one side of the Poker Room. The last nine spots were paid and Sam Sternfield took the top prize of $7,390 after an outright win at the final table.

Sternfield is a familiar face in our sister Poker Room in Hollywood but made the cross-state trek for some mixed games. This was his second great result in a Tampa H.O.R.S.E. tournament after a runner-up finish in our WPT Tampa version in June.

With two WPO tournaments running right now, some are playing five games (H.O.R.S.E.) and some only one game (NLH) but one is playing six.

2020 WSOP Global Champion AJ Kelsall is taking advantage of both tournaments in close proximity and he has chips in both games. He is switching seats depending on the timing of hands and trying to the unique double cash.

The H.O.R.S.E. tournament is off to a great start with 45 entries after 30 minutes of action and plenty of time to build it bigger. A great day to be a mixed game player.

Some familiar faces include Wally Maddah, Alan Thomas, six-time WSOP Circuit champ John Holley, and veteran poker dealer Raymond “Ray J” Jenny.

Level 1:  100/200 Limits

A lot of our locals were pointing to this day early on the Winter Poker Open schedule. That’s because today has the return of the popular H.O.R.S.E. tournament after some time away from the mix. The game is popular because of the overall talent needed to win and the fun rotation of Limit Hold’em, Limit Omaha 8, Razz, Seven-Card Stud, and Seven-Card Stud 8.

Players start with 10K stacks and all levels last 30 minutes long. Late registration and unlimited re-entries are available until the start of Level 9 at 6:45 pm following a 30-minute dinner break. The one-day tournament will continue to play down to the final table and eventual H.O.R.S.E. champion.

  • Levels last 30 minutes each
  • Late registration/re-entry available until start of Level 9 (6:45pm)
