Raminder Singh, Event 6 Champion

The last Winter Poker Open preliminary tournament featured the biggest buy-in of the series outside of the Main Event. It drew a huge 188-entry field and, in the end, it was Seminole Hard Rock Poker regular Raminder Singh adding another trophy to his collection along with $17,931.

Event 6 had a $600 buy-in and the huge turnout to put the prize pool just shy of $100,000. It was a great warmup for the WPO Main Event and a lot of new faces made an appearance including WSOP Circuit winner Ryan Van Sanford and Jeff Trudeau.

The last 19 spots were paid and they made the money late in the evening after a long bubble. Tampa favorite Russell “Bud” Waggoner was the unfortunate player to fall one spot short of the money and denied his third cash of the series.

Singh knocked Waggoner out to put them in the money then built his stack the rest of the way. Other notables in the money included Doug Flagle with his second deep run of the series, Cheri Beatty with her second cash of the series, and WSOP Circuit winner Walker Miskelly.

After Jason Ray was eliminated in fifth place at the final table, the four remaining players worked out an ICM deal to divide up the remaining prize pool. Singh held the chip lead at the time and picked up another tournament win.

Singh owns six major titles across the state in Hollywood but this is his first trophy from Tampa. He consistently runs deep in big events and last night was no different. Singh earned $17,931 for the victory along with the guitar trophy and momentum leading into the WPO Main Event.

Russell “Bud” Waggoner

It was another long bubble with a lot of money on the line at the end. It took 15 hands, enough for another full level, to burst the bubble.

On that hand, Russell “Bud” Waggoner open-shoved for his last 14,000 from under the gun and Raminder Singh had him at risk from the button.

Singh: AhKh
Waggoner: 9c7s

Singh was ahead but Waggoner had two live cards for a comeback. That all changed when Singh paired his king on the KdJs5d flop. The Kc turn improved him the trip kings and the 5h river finished the board. Waggoner was sent out on the bubble and denied his third cash of the series.

Structure | Payouts
Level 17:  3,000/6,000 with a 6,000 ante

Jason Ray

Event 6 players are very close to making some money, or 19 of the remaining 22 will be making some money. Tournament staff sent the players on a 15-minute break and they will get down to three tables with one elimination and the bubble with another.

Jason Ray looks like the break time leader with 570,000 and no one is within 100K at this point. A good stack heading into bubble play.

Blinds will be 3,000/6,000 with a 6,000 ante and the average stack 214,000 (36 bb).

Event 6: Five Tables Remaining

$600 No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Structure | Payouts
Level 14:  2,000/3,000 with a 3,000 ante
Players Remaining:  35 of 188

Russell “Bud” Waggoner

Russell “Bud” Waggoner has been a regular figure in every tournament of the series so far. The Poker Room regular made a nice run in the first two tournaments with cashes in Events 1 and 2. Waggoner had the second biggest cash of his career in February when he made the last three tables of the Tampa WSOP Circuit Main Event.

Event 6 is down to 35 players and still a good deal away from the money bubble. Blinds are now 2,000/3,000 with a 3,000 ante and the average stack is 134,000 (45 bb).

Event 6: Walker Miskelly Leads After Dinner

$600 No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Structure | Payouts
Level 13:  1,000/3,000 with a 3,000 ante
Players Remaining:  49 of 188

Walker Miskelly

The dinner break is over and players are back in their seats. Tournament staff broke a table on their return to put the count at 49 players remaining.

Another visitor is making the most of his trek. Mississippi’s Walker Miskelly looks like the dinner break leader as the WSOP Circuit winner stacked up to 265,000.

Blinds are now 1,000/3,000 with a 3,000 ante and the average stack is 96,000 (32 bb).

Event 6: Moving Along

$600 No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Structure | Payouts
Level 10:  500/1,500 with a 1,500 ante
Players Remaining:  70 of 188

Ryan Van Sanford

Even with the deep stacks, Event 6 is down to its last 10 tables as they hit the 10th level of the day. The average stack has 45 big blinds so that trend should not continue for long.

With the WPO Main Event kicking off tomorrow, we’re seeing more familiar faces make their way to town. Among them, we found Ryan Van Sanford and Jeff Trudeau. They have millions in career earnings including 12 WSOP Circuit rings (nine for Trudeau, three for Van Sanford) and a definite increase in talent as we head into the big weekend.
