The second break is complete and players returned to their seats trying to make a stack. With all players seated earlier, the entry count for Flight C locked in at 356.

That puts the combined total for Event 2 up to 811 for a fantastic start to the series. The $100,000 guaranteed prize pool was pushed up to an incredible $267,630.

We will post the payout information as soon as it is available.

Vitor Coelho

Everyone who bought into Flight C has been seated and the counting can commence. No matter the exact number, it is a huge day in the Poker Room. Players will make their way through this level and take the second break of the day.

Vitor Coelho was one of those waiting but now he is ready to run it up. The Tampa favorite has several big tournament wins, including a SHRPO title in Hollywood and WPTDeepStacks trophy, but he is still waiting for his first win on home soil.

Tournament staff are working hard to get all the alternates seated and the end is near. We are awaiting the accounting to officially call the final number.

Two Tampa regulars have their seats and trying to keep them for the rest of the day. Steve Tziris and Josias Santos both gave it a shot yesterday but fell short of bagging and both are back today trying again.

Event 2 Day 1C: Registration Closed

$400 No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
$100,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 5:  200/400 with a 400 ante
Entries:  356

The 30-minute break came to an end as did the re-entry period for the massive second Winter Poker Open tournament. We expected a big turnout on this Saturday but not many predicted this many players.

The unofficial total for Flight C stands at 356 entries but we will have to wait until all alternates are seated before locking in a number. Either way, no matter any minor corrections with entry count, the $100,000 guaranteed prize pool slammed past $260,000 for an incredible number.

Once everything is settled, we will be able to crunch the payout information numbers and know how much everyone is playing for tomorrow.

Andra Zachow

With less than two minutes before the first break, we caught the action with Andra Zachow heads-up with the board complete and reading Ts8d7h6h9d. Both players checked the river and flipped up their cards with a straight on the board.

“I think you got lucky,” her opponent said.

She flipped up AdAs and her opponent showed 5d4d. She got lucky to not have her aces cracked after he caught a gutshot straight on the turn.

The level soon came to an end and tournament staff sent players on a 30-minute dinner break. The re-entry period will end when they return and we will know exactly how big Event 2 reached.

$100,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 16:  3,000/5,000 with a 5,000 ante
Players Remaining:  26 of 252

Roberto Molina

One hand into Level 16, one short-stacked player ran into a flopped straight to hit the rail and put Flight B in the money with 26 remaining.

Roberto Molina had a huge day and put 810,000 in his bag for tomorrow. That is good enough for a huge lead so far with fellow Flight B player Frank Weigel his closest competitor with 489,000.

Other notable big stacks:

  • Frank Weigel – 489,000
  • Adam Birggs – 310,000
  • Tom Nguyen – 309,000
  • Michael Cohen – 268,000
  • Thomas McDonald – 251,000
  • Jeremy Boston – 248,000
  • Kenneth Goldfarb – 205,000
  • Phi Nguyen – 204,000
  • David Dibernardi – 200,000

The 26 players who survived Flight B will return on Sunday at noon for Day 2 along with the 22 from Flight A and those who make it through Saturday.

Tournament staff are compiling the full chip count list and we will post later this evening.

Event 2 Day 1B: Closing on the Bubble

$100,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 15:  2,000/4,000 with a 4,000 ante

Flight B is only two eliminations from the bubble and three from ending the day. They will begin hand-for-hand when 27 players remain and burst the bubble with one knockout.

In the meantime, Roberto Molina is crushing right now with 765,000 at the moment and set to take the overall lead into Day 2 after two flights.
