Derrick Cutler

The second break is complete and registration is closed on Flight A of Event 3. The clock shows an unofficial 50 entries and we will update once the numbers are counted.

After eight levels, Derrick Cutler ran his 25,000 starting stacks up to 100,000 on the nose. Then he won the race off to move to 100,500. That’s good enough for the lead with Mark Wiser sitting with more than 80,000.

Cutler has two wins, both in the state, but his biggest result saw him part of SHRP history. Back in 2013, SHR Hollywood ran the first massive SHRPO Championship, complete with a $10,000,000 Guarantee and $12,000,000 prize pool. Cutler was among the 2,384 entries and made the final table where he collected a whopping $232,000 for an eighth-place finish.

Justin Zaki

Flight A moved into Level 8 and that means time is running out to jump in the game this afternoon. We should hit 50 entries before that time, the exact number we need per flight to hit the $100,000 Guarantee, and this will likely be the smallest of the four sessions.

Tampa reg Justin Zaki was one of the latest to get in the game but he does not have a soft table. The 2018 WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open runner-up was moved to a new table as soon as he arrived and joined John Dolan and Bryce McVay in a short-handed, tough lineup.

Lawrence Whyte

WPTDeepStacks events have been a mainstay on our schedules for a few years with some great results. But back in the early history of the tour, the first DeepStacks Poker Tour event run on a Seminole property was in Hollywood back in 2015. This was at the time when the tour was beginning its transition to the World Poker Tour banner and the 2015 SHR Hollywood LHPO Main Event, at the time, was one of the biggest the tour ran.

Compared to more recent turnouts, the 396 entries in that tournament might seem small but it set the standard moving forward for bigger, stronger, four-figure WPTDS fields.

This afternoon we have the winner of that tournament. Lawrence Whyte captured the title in 2015 over a tough final table that included Stuart Greenbaum, Stephen Diamantas, Nick Pupillo, Carlos Loving, soon-to-be SHRP Player of the Year Ory Hen, and current SHRP POY Brett Bader.

Whyte earned $91,000 for the title along with a piece of SHRP history.

Event 3 Flight A: John Dolan Enters

John Dolan

The first break is complete and action is back underway in Flight A. We picked up a couple more entries while they were gone and it’s a nice, comfortable afternoon for poker.

Local favorite John Dolan took his seat before the break and remarkably aiming for his first SHR Tampa title. He has nearly $4.8 million in live career earnings with WSOP Circuit titles and a Coco Poker Open Championship win along with his 2010 WSOP Main Event November Nine fourth-place finish. But he’s still waiting on that first big score on his home turf.

Event 3 Flight A: Mark Wiser Back for More

Level 3: 100/200 with a 200 ante
Flight A Entries: 39

Mark Wiser

The Event 3 entry count is moving up for Flight A as we move into the afternoon hours and pacing nicely to beat the $100,000 Guarantee.

Mark Wiser returned to the poker room and the SHR Tampa regular had another deep run yesterday. He was grinding his way through Day 2 of the Deepstack Challenge opening event and made his way to the last two tables, finishing 17th out of 1,128 entries to walk away with more than $3,000.
