Level 3: 75/150

John Holley (Destin, FL)
John Holley (Destin, FL)

Earlier this series, John Holley made his grand entrance, took a seat in the $250 pot limit Omaha tournament, stole a peak at his first four cards and busted on the very first hand. He didn’t hesitate firing bullet number two and eventually found himself among the in-the-money field before finishing 14th.

Still on his first Day 1D buy-in, Holley is leaps and bounds ahead of his previous tournament pace. The clock currently reads 74 players entered with late registration available until 10:30 p.m. ET.

Event 7 Day 1C: Play Complete with Cohen Leading

$560 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
End of Level 14: 1,500/3,000/400 Ante

Mike Cohen
Mike Cohen ends with the Flight C lead

There was little doubt that Mike Cohen would end Flight C with the lead, no other stacks were close. The question was who would bag up the second spot and that honor belongs to Johnny Pappas (“Call me Johnny Pappas. It’s been a long time since someone called me Johnny.” Yessir.)

Cohen finished with 376,000 which puts him just behind overall leader Maroun Akiki at 397,000 while Pappas put 220,000 in his bag. Other notables returning include AJ “Doc” Santos, Greg McNealy, and Dan Dumont.

Full chip counts coming when they are available.

Event 4 winner Eric Wert hides under his signature cowboy hat.

Event 4 winner Eric “Shadow Man” Wert is back on the re-entry felt and has sights on another Winter Poker Open victory. Wert bested a field of 546 in Event 4 and is likely to have to outlast a larger field here in Event 7. He’ll have his work cut out for him as fellow Event 4 final tablist Timothy H. shares his same table.

Timothy H. placed third placed third following a five-way chop that saw Wert take home the tournament’s top spot at the token Winter Poker Open guitar trophy.

The pair has some history, and we’ll keep an eye on their progress here in Flight D.

We’ve reached the end and it’s time to find some chip leaders among the baggers. They’ll play a few more hands then call it a night with around 15 players by the time it wraps.

While looking at the two tables remaining, we found #Ambassador Wally Maddah happily grinding in the evening flight.

Flight C can see the end of day approaching, only one hour to go before the survivors will bag up their chips for Day 2 on Sunday.

Mike Cohen is in the process of hoarding as many chips as they’ll give him. He’s cleared 250,000 and will contend for overall top stack when we are done.

John Pappas is one of those hanging in the suburbs of Cohen’s chip castle along with a few others over 100,000.

Event 7 Day 1D: Friday’s Second Flight

$560 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 1: 25/50

Friday’s second flight and the fourth of six starting flights in Event 7 is underway. To this point, the field stands at at 274 players with tonight and tomorrow’s action expected to yield some of the largest fields.

Players take their seats to deep stacks of 25,000 and late registration/re-entry is available until the start of Level 9. Play concludes following Level 14 and we’ll provide complete Flight D chip counts at that time.

Good luck, players!

Event 7 Day 1C: Break’m Up

$560 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 12: 1,000/2,000/300 Ante

Players are on the final break of the flight with 29 players remaining from the starting 88. That is a slower pace than the previous two flights but that might have something to do with Mike Cohen running over everyone.

We’ll take a look to see who’s competing for second chip count as they play out their last two levels.

Event 7 Day 1C: Cohen Storms Ahead

$560 Deep Stack No Limit Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 11: 800/1,600/200 Ante

2015 WPO Mike Cohen

We were eyeing up some bigger stack as the field moved through the late levels, catching a few moving over the 100K mark when we came upon Mike Cohen stacking up a monster stack.

He jammed himself clear into six-digit territory and now sitting comfortably with 230,000 with four more levels to go. He’s now in contention for the overall lead at 397,000.
