Flight B is into the final level for players to build their stacks or dust them off for another entry. We have 111 in the game right now with a few more expected to join before we close up the desk.

Anthony March is with us this evening with some nice results here in the past. His two biggest scores came with the WPT Regional series in town and he finished 4th and 8th in back-to-back years to push him over $125,000 in career earnings.

Event 4 Day 1B: 100 Entrants; Byars Among Them

Level 7: 300/600/75 Ante

2015 WPO Byars bust

The second flight reached 100 entrants during Level 6 and one of those is former big stack Brandon Byars. He found a good spot to get his chips in the middle but it didn’t work out.

He was facing three all-ins with the board reading Ah3d2h and Byars put his chips in the middle with them. It was a chance for a huge stack or a run to the registration desk. He was in with 4s4h against a micro-stack AdJs along with Ac9h and JdJc.

Byars called getting the right price but couldn’t catch the 3h turn or Td river to send him back to the registration desk for another bullet.

The names atop the leaderboard didn’t change before the first break with Richard Thai’s 45,975 the best in the field at this point. Cheri Beatty sits in second with 35,800 while Brandon Byars more than doubled his stack in four levels.

Beatty and Byars saw their stacks go in opposite directions coming back from the break. Byars doubled up an opponent on the first hand back when his Trip Aces were outkicked while Beatty added to her stack with straight over sucker-straight.

Byars is off to a nice start this series after a deep run in Event 1 and final table finish in Event 3.

Wally Maddah

We’re seeing more regular faces in the late flight crowd as they make their way to the poker room.

One of latest to jump in is Seminole Hard Rock Tampa ambassador Wally Maddah. He’s walked away with two titles from tournaments in this room and he’s trying to pick up another. Maddah cashed in Event 1 yesterday and came close to cashing in Event 3 a few hours later.

Richard Thai wasn’t the only player getting an early jump on the chip lead this evening. Local favorite Cheri Beatty was an early-adopter in the big stack game as well. She had nearly triple the starting stack in Level 2 and also set up nicely for a deep run.

The count climbed over 60 entrants before the top of the hour and we’re on pace to easily surpass this morning’s flight.

Players were still finding their way to the registration desk or their seats when Richard Thai jumped ahead of them all. We heard from him shortly after play started and he was joking about getting a quickly double up.

On his first hand.

Still plenty of time to go, we’ll see how that sets him up for later in the evening.

Event 4 Day 1B: Night Time Flight

Level 1: 25/50

The second flight of Event 4 is ready to kick off and get us closer to the $50,000 guaranteed prize pool. It only takes $150 at the registration desk to get a piece of the big money and we started well this morning.

The first flight drew 102 entrants and we expect even more this evening. There are also two more flights on Tuesday, the first at 11am and the final at 6pm.

Players sit down to 15,000 stacks and grind 30-minute levels during the entire event. Late registration is available until the start of Level 9 at 10:30pm and players can re-enter as often as they like if they go bust during that time.

Since 1A reached the magical number of 11% remaining, play was concluded at the end of Level 12. That changes the schedule for the next three flights, they will now all end at the same point.

From 102 starting entries, the Flight A field in Event 4  is down to the final 11 and wrapped for the evening. Eric Wert did the dirty work spiking a flush on the river and busting his opponent’s set. With the elimination, the tournament narrowed to 11 percent of the starting field and concluded for the day.

Leading the way is Douglas Decker who bagged an impressive 317,000. The next closest stack belongs to Wert who claims 249,100.

Flight A chip counts:

  1. Douglas Decker – 317,000
  2. Eric Wert – 249,100
  3. Prasad Lingamaneni – 222,350
  4. Hristos Tsironis – 161,300
  5. Herbert Woodbery – 140,000

  8. David Ormsbee – 95,800
  9. Christopher Kazolias – 68,100
  10. David Lawrence – 47,500
  11. Ali R. Khashijan – 29,400

Day 2 resumes Wednesday at 11 a.m. ET with blinds of 1,200/2,400 and a 300 ante.

Event 4 Day 1A: Chip Leaders Tango

$150 Big Stack No Limit Holdem (Re-Entry)
Level 11: 8,000/16,000/200 Ante

Chip leader Douglas Decker butt heads with Eric Wert who currently sits second in chips. The headliners, who are sitting side-by-side, saw a flop of Ah4d2d. Decker checked from the small blind. Wert bet 5,000 from the big blind.  A middle-position player folded and Decker called.

The turn brought the 7h. Decker checked again. Wert bet 9,000. Decker called.

The river completed the board with the Th and it went check-check. Decker conceded the pot, flashing the 9d and explaining he had a draw. Wert was drawing as well, but held the Td3d  and paired up on the river.

Decker retained his chip lead, but Wert now sits firmly in second after taking the pot.
