Quentin Jones

Quentin Jones might have the best return-on-investment in the field so far and that’s better than some who used a satellite to get.

Jones won Event 3 heading into the Main Event, taking the top prize of $31,987 along with a seat in the $300,000 headliner tournament. He played Flight A on little sleep, bagged up 175,000 and is now up to 385,000 with 42 players remaining. He’s guaranteed at least another $2,690 but has the chips to take it higher.

Roberto Mello

Our long bubble is finally over after 14 hands, 28 minutes of clock time, and one hour of real time.

Anthony Astarita opened to 13,000 from middle position and Barry Wiedmann called on the button. Michael Newman moved all in for 19,000 from the big blind and picked up calls from both players.

Then they waited.

Waited for the other tables to finish their action before running the hands where there was another all-in called.

Astarita and Wiedmann checked down the Ah7s5h5dTc board and Newman gave the table a little smack. He flopped an open-ended straight draw with 8s6d but never got there. Wiedmann took the pot with KdQs against Astarita’s KcJc.

On the other table, Roberto Mello open-shoved for 12,000 and Merlin Schenk called from the big blind.

Mello: AcJd
Schenk: Td5d

Mello was ahead for the double and dodged the 9s7d4c flop. Schenk paired the 5c and Mello was eliminated after the 6s river for the double knockout.

Due to his (slightly) bigger stack, Newman was awarded 78th place money while Mello was the bubble boy.

Barry Wiedmann – 470,000 (78 bb)
Merlin Schenk – 224,000 (37 bb)
Anthony Astarita – 113,000 (19 bb)
Michael Newman – Eliminated in 78th place ($1,480)
Roberto Mello – Eliminated in 79th place

Michael Newman

Michael Newman is chasing Seminole Hard Rock Poker Player of the Year points but they are not making it easy on him.

Newman was in the cutoff and called an all in shove by William Burdick in the hijack for 31,000.

Newman: 8h8d
Burdick: AsQc

Newman was ahead in the race and stormed further out front on the Th8s7s flop. His set was looking good and Burdick stood up from his seat.

Then he sat back down as the board finished with the 6d turn and 9s river to put a straight on the board for a chopped pot.

Michael Newman – 93,000 (19 bb)
William Burdick – 37,000 (7 bb)

Wiser: QhQs
Do: AcTs

Do was in rough shape with the single over card and couldn’t catch the Kd9h8d3d7s board to exit short of the money.

Anthony Do – Eliminated
