After a slow restart after dinner, Event 1 is quickly down to two tables with two eliminations at the same time.

Erick Kappel began his exit on Table 43 when he open/shoved for 248,000 and Frank Weigel called after taking his time to think it out.

Weigel: 9s9d
Kappel: AcKs

Weigel asked the dealer for a low board and his wish was granted as she spread 6c3d2d2h4d to send Kappel out in 20th place.

While that was going down, dinner-time leader Quyen Hoang’s fall from grace was complete in 19th place.

Frank Weigel – 1,200,000 (40 bb)
Erick Kappel – Eliminated in 20th place ($1,138)

19th: Quyen Hoang – $1,138
20th: Erick Kappel – $1,138

Event 1: Wunder Doubles Through Hoang

$350 Deep Stack NL Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 24: 12,000/24,000 with a 3,000 ante
Players Remaining: 23 of 721

Jordan Wunder

Quyen Hoang returned from dinner with the biggest stack remaining but his post-feast run has not gone well. The latest set back occurred when Jordan Wunder moved all-in from early position and Hoang reshipped from the small blind.

Wunder: AcKc
Hoang: TcTs

Hoang was ahead in the race but Wunder flopped well on the 7c6s5c board. He had a ton of outs heading to the turn and hit the Kd. The 9d river left Hoang shipping a lot of chips across the table to leave him the short stack.

Jordan Wunder – 1,100,000 (46 bb)
Quyen Hoang – 320,000 (13 bb)

Event 1: Tom Nguyen – 24th Place ($1,138)

Players Remaining: 23 of 721

Tom Nguyen’s run came to an end at the hands of friend Wally Maddah. He moved all-in from the small blind for 130,000 and Maddah slow peeled his big blind.

The Seminole Hard Rock Tampa ambassador leaned back, laughed, and called.

Maddah: JdJs
Nguyen: Qs5c

Nguyen needed some help to stay alive and caught a piece of the Th6s5s flop. His brief window of salvation closed as Maddah turned a set when the dealer dropped the Jc. Nguyen was drawing dead to the 2s river and 24th place.

Wally Maddah – 775,000 (39 bb)
Tom Nguyen – Eliminated in 24 place ($1,138)

Level 23: 10,000/20,000 with a 3,000 ante
Players Remaining: 26 of 721

Justin Maddox

It took a while for players to mix it up after the three-table redraw, deep stacks and getting a feel for their new tablemates. The stalemate broke when short stacked Chad Miker took a shot with QdTh and ran into (now) chip leader Justin Maddox’ dominating KhQh.

The all-low 5s2c2h8d8s never gave either a sweat to send Miker out after the pay jump and push Maddox near 1.5 million.

Justin Maddox – 1,485,000 (74 bb)
Chad Miker – Eliminated in 27th place ($1,138)

Event 1: Staffan Lind Cracks Aces, Takes Chip Lead

Level 22: 8,000/16,000 with a 2,000 ante
Players Remaining: 30 of 721

Staffan Lind
Staffan Lind

A late-position player had 30,000 in the pot. Staffan Lind was on the button with stack of 100,000 shoved forward. The small blind was in on it, too, with an all-in bet of 144,000 in the middle. The late-position player made an uneasy fold while Lind nonchalantly called the 44,000 extra putting the small blind at risk.

Small blind: AhAd
Lind: 5c5d

Lind was well behind in the hand, but had the small blind easily covered. The flop left little room for a sweat when it fell 9d8c5h giving Lind a set of fives. The turn 3c and river 3d improved Lind to a fullhouse. He busted the small blind and took the chip lead in the process.

Staffan Lind – 1,555,000 (97 bb)

Event 1: David Tuthill Chugging Along

$350 Deep Stack NL Hold’em (Re-Entry)
Level 21: 6,000/12,000 with a 2,000 ante
Players Remaining: 32 of 721

David Tuthill
David Tuthill

David Tuthill is one of the most experienced players to have made Day 2 here in the Winter Poker Open $350. He’s been steady throughout the day, but is making a move as of late.

He recently lead out for 43,000 on a QsTc9s7s board. The pot was heads up and action was on a player in early position. That player called and they saw the Jd river. Tuthill jammed having his opponent’s last roughly 100,000 chips covered. The opponent mucked and Tuthill took the pot.

David Tuthill – 435,000 (36 bb)

Max Goodarzi
Max Goodarzi

Blinds are rising, players are busting and tables are breaking. One of the most recent tables to break is Table 47. Along with fellow big stacks Brandon Byars and Justin Maddox, Max Goodarzi was at Table 47 and just recently took a new seat to the dismay of his new tablemates.

Goodarzi’s stack sits at 1,075,000 not only making him the first player over the 1,000,000 mark, but putting him atop the counts with only fives tables remaining.

Max Goodarzi – 1,075,000 (107 bb)
