Level 10 is here and registration is closed in Flight C of the Winter Poker Open $570. It marked the largest start day yet with 127 entries bringing the combined field to 331. That has the prize pool at better than $165,000 with four starting flights still to come.

Flight C is narrowing with less than half of the 127 starters still around. We’ll take a look at some of those around for the late stages of play momentarily.

As Flight C goes from the early stages play into the middle, there are some big stacks emerging. None as big as Flight A’s Joseph Orsino, though.

Orsino bagged a monster in yesterday’s opening session of play. It was a clash of the chip leaders in his respective flight when his top set faced off against a pair and a flush held by Al Krux. The turn and river fell blanks for Krux and he was left stunned sending piles of chips Orsino’s way.

Orsino went on to bag 734,000 — head and shoulder above Kharlin Sued’s 315,000. In Flight B, Alexander Beece and Kris Villanueva bagged 566,000 and 509,000 respectively to sit second and third overall.

Defending champion Gil Aboodi is up over the 30,000-chip starting stack, but that’s despite a recent battle that saw him turn over second best. The turn gave Aboodi a straight, but the river filled his opponent up. Aboodi paid off the river and sent a pot across the table.

Despite the small setback, Aboodi has nearly doubled-up late in Level 6.

First break’s a wrap and play is back underway in Flight C of the Winter Poker Open $570, $300,000 guarantee. The Friday turnout is strong and getting stronger as the early stages of play saw a continued upward trend in the entry count. Now nearly three hours since kickoff, the clock shows 115 entered putting the combined field at 319. Registration and re-entry are available until about 4pm.

After putting an absolute hurt on last June’s WPTDeepStacks Tampa, Quentin Jones is back in the Seminole Hard Rock poker room in hopes of more of the same.

Just six months ago, Jones won the WPTDeepStacks $350 for $31,987. In addition, he pocketed a $1,100 seat into the Main Event. He parlayed that free seat into a much more high-profile win going on to top the Main Event only a few days later for $116,435.

With nearly $150,000 in cashes over the span of two events, Jones ponied up today’s $570 buy-in and makes his way to play some winter poker here in Flight C of the opener.

Now through December 17th, some of the biggest poker prize pools in the country will be up for grabs right here at the Seminole Hard Rock. Pair that with an upcoming weather forecast of sunny and mid-70s and traveling to Tampa for the Winter Poker Open starts to look quite appealing.

One player that made the trek south from his home state of Wisconsin is Jason Mitchell. Mitchell arrived in town Wednesday and warmed up on the cash tables before getting in the tournament game for today’s Flight C.

Mitchell’s tournament resume is light as of late, but he’s found the winner’s circle twice at a small property outside of Green Bay. His journey to another poker W is back underway here in Flight C and we’ll keep an eye on his progress throughout the day.

As they did yesterday, those in Flight C begin with 30,000 chips and will log 30-minute levels throughout today’s 14 levels. Registration and re-entry are available until about 4pm with play slated to wrap around 6:45pm.
