With registration closed and no one firing another bullet, Flight A is quickly down to 72 players eyeing a spot in the Day 2 field. Less than half of them are expected to advance so work needs to be done.

Michael Stashin has been rolling all day long. He was an early leader today and he looks like the biggest stack in the room right now with 245,000.

The official count is in and Flight A of the 2021 Tampa Poker Classic Main Event drew exactly 200 entries to put the prize pool up to $310,000. That is a fantastic start to the tournament with two weekend flights remaining starting with Flight B on Friday at 11 am.

Tonight’s schedule has Flight A playing through Level 14 with survivors bagging up for a Day 2 return on Sunday at noon.

Main Event players are now taking their 90-minute dinner break but not before the Day 1A gang pushed the prize pool over the $300,000 guarantee. That means we will be looking at a huge number by the time registration fully closes on Saturday evening.

Players will return at a 7 pm and registration will shutdown for Day 1A.

Max Young

Big tournament series returned to Tampa with the Winter Poker Open in December. Eight primary events and we have two of the winners playing this afternoon.

Jason Block picked up his WPO score in December with a win in Event 4 while Max Young hit the jackpot. Young outlasted the entire 779-entry field in the $1,700 buy-in WPO Main Event to win the title along with $226,510.

Main Event Day 1A: Casey Carroll Leads

$1,700 TPC Main Event (Re-Entry)
$300,000 Guaranteed | Structure
Level 7:  300/600 with a 600 ante
Entries:  176

Casey Carroll

Main Event players returned to their seats and everyone is chasing Casey Carroll at the top of the counts. His stack sits at 164,500 after six levels of play with Michael Stashin the closest to him with 127,500.

Carroll came one spot away from winning his first WSOP Circuit ring last February, second place in the WSOPC Hammond Main Event, then went on pause like the rest of the world. When he returned to action, he booked a 12th place finish in our Tampa Winter Poker Open in December.

Stashin is another visitor from the Northeast and has a Borgata win on his list of credits. But his biggest score came with a WPT final table after he finished fourth in the WPT Choctaw Main Event for more than $200K.

Level 6:  300/500 with a 500 ante
Entries:  175

Main Event players were sent on their second break of the day with the field less than 20 entries away from hitting the $300,000 guaranteed prize pool. That number is definitely in play with nearly four hours remaining in registration.

We will take this opportunity to find our big stacks while they are away.

Tampa regular Mark “Bud” Wiser is among the Day 1A field

Tournament staff have been seating alternates since the break and the entry count jumped over 150 as they moved into Level 5. That continues the great turnout out so far with two huge fights left to go plus late reg still wide open.

Alberto Sabogali

Action is back underway after the first break and we caught up with a couple of out-of-towners. The tournaments this series have been a nice combination of local regular and visitors from afar looking from some TPC hardware.

Alberto Sabogali and Eric Siegel are a couple of players we are used to seeing get results in the Northeast but are here for the warmer weather and tournament action.

Sabogali hit a nice score last January when he won the Borgata Winter Poker Open Purple Chip Bounty tournament for a $47K payday. Then everything went into lockdown but Sabogali bounced back last month with four cashes during the 2021 Lucky Hearts Poker Open in Hollywood.
