On a side note to Evan Panesis elimination to Gibbons, Gibbons can’t believe that his 9s full of 8s is the winner because of a Day 1 hand the two played.

Gibbons had been stewing over a missed chance to knockout Panesis yesterday when he bet the river with 9s full of 8s. After sitting in the tank for several minutes, Panesis drops a raise on to the felt and Gibbons exposed his cards thinking it was simply a call.

Gibbons called the bet, but missed a chance to reraise Panesis all in, who turned over the under full house 8s full of 9s.

“That’s why I called,” says Gibbons of today’s turn bet, “I was thinking about the 9s and 8s.  He (Panesis) should feel lucky that he made the money, he should’ve been out yesterday.

“That’s gold right there, you can’t make that up. That’s a good story.”

Ryan Van Sanford (Colorado Springs, CO) was the Day 2 returning short stack, but never got any traction.  After an early double-up he continued to bleed chips until shoving his final 30k (15 bb) with AJ suited.

Chip leader “Ping Pang” Kerr knocks out Van Sanford with pocket Queens to earn his 4th bounty of the tournament ($2,000).

Van Sanford says he drove from Colorado to play in the series and is looking forward to playing in the Championship Event (June 12-18).

After seeing short stack Ryan Van Sanford shove the previous hand, Wally Maddah (Tampa, FL) is put to the test with another Van Sanford shove.

After tanking for a minute, Maddah calls and is in bad shape A7 < AK.

Maddah doesn’t improve and ships a ~25k double-up, leaving him short. A few hands later, Maddah hits two pairs, but “Ping Pang” Kerr goes runner-runner flush to get the knockout.
