Alexander Grassia with piles of chips

With the board reading 9d8d5c and the pot already huge, Table 22 kept the action going. Jeffrey Kohlman was all in at risk for about 110,000 while Nashaat Antonious and Alexander Grassia were playing a side pot for 83,000 each.

The turn came 4s, Antonious checked, Grassia announced all in and Antonious called at risk for 247,000.

Kohlman: Ac9c
Antonious: JcJs
Grassia: 7d6c

Kohlman flopped top pair top kicker, Antonious had an over pair of jacks, but Grassia flopped the nine-high straight and had both players drawing dead to the 5d river to drag the massive pot.

Kohlman and Antonious were eliminated, Grassia stacked up to 1,100,000 and the field made it to the final table when Maurice Haynes was eliminated soon after.

10th: Maurice Haynes – $1,620

It was a bit of a surprise to see AJ Perez walking to the payout desk since he hit the two-table redraw with a healthy stack.

“Look at Fred.” tournament staff said.

Fred Paradis looks like the recipient of Perez’s stack and jumped up to 981,000. Gabriel Fuller is still doing just fine with 785,000.

AJ Perez stacks his Day 2 chip lead

Event 3: Day 2 Ready to Go

$50,000 Guaranteed | Structure | Payouts
Level 15:  3,000/6,000 with a 6,000 ante

Event 3 was the last multi-flight tournament before the PPO Championship kicks off tomorrow and the $400 Deep Stack drew 226 entries to surpass its $50,000 guarantee easily.

We saw 30 players make it through to Day 2, which gets underway at noon with everyone in the money and guaranteed at least $720. But the big money is up top, with $16,860 set aside for the Event 3 champ.

AJ Perez leads the return, with Gabriel Fuller, Yan Jiang, Maurice Haynes, and Nick Scholz rounding out the top five. The stacks are deep, and they’ll start playing 40-minute levels after the first break, so still anyone’s game.

It will be a fun warmup before the Championship.

Top ten returning stacks:

  1. AJ Perez – 663,000 (133 bb)
  2. Gabriel Fuller – 549,000 (110 bb)
